APRIL 2004

Seton Hill University - Thank you so much for an incredible evening! Jaimie, thank you for considering me as a facilitator for the evening. Dinner was fantastic and you are such a warm host! Marcia, thank you for an incredible introduction! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your birthday weekend, you deserve it! Justin, thank you for naming Chuckie, the Chime. Ami, thank you for being such a good participant and a good sport with Mr. Potato Head. Deanna, Dave, Jimmy, Carmen, Jennifer, Sarah, Shannon, Jimmy, Carmen, Zack, Andrea, and everyone else – you are all simply amazing! I am honored to have had the opportunity to spend time with you!

You are an awesome group and are all wise beyond your years. I learned as much from you as I hope you learned from each other. I have added a new term, “Do-Allers” to my vocabulary – thank you Erin! I wish all of you well in your future leadership endeavors. Given the knowledge and passion you all have, I know you will do well. Your fellow students have much to learn from you!

My words here can hardly express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for such a memorable evening! I will forever send you warm thougths and well wishes. There is something incredibly special about Seton Hill and each and everyone of you!

American College Personnel Association Annual Convention - I am so thankful for all the wonderful colleagues and friends that I get to meet and reconnect with each year at the convention. To all of the Brothers and Sisters I met at the African American Male Summit I am deeply blessed and influenced due to my interactions with you. After all these years, I can easily say that this year was the best convention ever thanks to this program and the senior student affairs colleagues who put it together. A special thank you to those Brothers who were part of my afternoon group - your advice was absolutely phenomenal!

To all of the old and new colleagues I connected with - thank you! My University of Maryland friends and fellow alum- old and new - especially the CSP doctoral students; my Ship "mates", both old and new, who are too many to name - Donna, Barry, Dr. Arminio (you deserve an entire page of gratitude!), KBH, et al.; Gettysburg colleagues, Tim (you are so beautiful!) and Mark, Tom, Nina, Natalie, Jeff - and Jill, Andi - I look forward to seeing you next year in Opry Land, Tennessee.

Christa, Todd, Raukar - It's always a treat to see you and remember our Ship days! Although we don't see each other very often, I am glad we can catch up wherever we've left off. Who I am as a professional is in a large part due to your influence on my life - thank you! Christa, I am especially thankful to you for connecting me with Malik. Malik - we are Brothers for life man! I look forward to keeping in touch with you in the future and I hope to visit Austin sometime soon!

Liz - You are so fabulous! Thank you for being you! I am proud, amazed and inspired by you! Grad school suites you so well! Keeping in touch with you over the past two years has meant a great deal to me - thank you for being who you are. I never knew five years ago that our paths would leads us to where we are now. Life truly is grand!

Quickel - I wish we would have had more time to spend together, but as social butterflies, having only 5 days with 4000 people makes it hard. Knowing you, I'll be visitingt Cabrini real soon again!

Matthew - thank you for such a wonderful dinner the first night of the convention. I am so very proud of you and feel privileged to have you as a colleague. I could say, "You've come a long way since I worked with you as an RA." However, you've always "been there" and you just keep getting better!

Becca - Even though we didn't get that much time together, I am appreciative of the time we did have and thankful that I met some of your IUP colleagues. You make all of us at your alma mater very proud!

Lee - Good Brother! I owe you a phone call! As always, your support and friendship inspires me. I'll see you soon!

To all the SJTI (Social Justice Training Institute) alum - I love you all and feel such warmth whenever I am in your presence. A few special words to Helen, Erin, Tricia and Dan - you are all so beautfiul! Our work still continues and there is plenty for us to do!

A special thank you to those Brothers whose example continues to inspire me. Marv, I'm glad we've reconnected after losing touch over the past few years. I look forward to seeing you more often and being able to rely on your guidance and wisdom. Your example continues to inspire my work. The grill and charcoal are always hot and waiting for your skills - see you real soon! Jamie, you continue to give me the foundation I need as a social justice educator - your love is a strong and I respect you deeply. You are beauty, you are love and you are peace.

Joy - I like to save the best for last. Thank you for being such an incredible partner! Our presentation was from the heart and I know our words left a positive impression and are making a difference! Watch out world, here we come!

FEBRUARY 2004

Cabrini College - First of all, let me just say I love Cabrini! Quickel - thank you once again for inviting me to share time with you and the awesome students of Cabrini - you make me feel like I'm home - I don't even need directions to get there because I know the way by heart! Shannon, Jacquelyn, Kristan, Lisa and Meg - thank you for such an incredibly fun dinner at The Grog- I won't divulge the entire content of our conversation here, but let me just say I'm still laughing! Shannon - let's just hope you will be able to avoid any future adventures with "the authorities" again. I'll never see or think about Broad St. again the same way! Jacquelyn - you are not a boring person by a long shot - and you make very good dinner entree choices too! I'll follow your lead anytime! Kristan - "So how does that work for you?" I gues it is true that red heads have more fun. Don't let anyone give you a hard time about Bob either. Lisa - chicken fingers are not a kids meal no matter what Quickel says. Hold onto to your Upper Darby accent too! Meg - I wish you were able to sit at our table instead of having to work as hostess and take part in the conversation. You were a fanstastic host and very much appreciated by all of us! - All of the above was just from the night before!

Many thanks to everyone for such a great retreat! I appreciate your honesty and directness with one another. Jimmy - you are a real trooper for taking so much abuse from your fellow RHA members! Ashley, Ashley Y., Colleen, Kim, Beth, Kacie, Kristin, Maureen, Christina - nice job on spelling out RHA with your bodies - now that's dedication! I know that Cabrini's RHA will do great things for spring 2004 and beyond! Spending time with all of you was truly an honor! You have a wise and insightful exec board - Jacquelyn - your heart and love for RHA is contagious! Lisa - keep your subtle humor and your words of wisdom. Meg - Wow - your comments and insights are always very accurate! Kristan - You offer much clarity for this group - keep it up! Shannon - I love how you just say what needs to be said and are completely honest with yourself and others!

Quickel - Thank you again my friend for allowing me to be a part of this year's RHA retreat! Just incase any of you were wondering - I made it home in plenty of time for the SuperBowl.

JANUARY 2004

Shepherd College - Irene, thank you for inviting me to spend time training time with the RAs again! I thoroughly enjoyed presenting with you and sharing the spotlight and your talents. We spent a great deal of time working on this together and I enjoyed every bit of it, including the digressions! Working with you was a lot of fun and we should certainly present again sometime soon! To all of the Shepherd RAs - thank you for the honor of spending time with you yet again. As you have done in the past, you make me proud and very appreciative to work at Shepherd!

Loyola College - Sara and Gabby, thank you so much for being such incredible hosts! Sara - Joy and I really enjoyed our time with your staff and colleagues and are very appreciative for inviting us to share such valuable time at Loyola and for making our session the highlight of your training time. Gabby - what can I say - you always make me feel so special and thank you for introducing Joy and me. You were an incredible help with our logistical challenges and your "endorsement" is both honored and much appreciated. To the Loyola RA Crew - you are an incredibly bright bunch and Joy and I talked about how amazed we were with your insights on our way home. Recognizing privilege and marginalization is vital to embracing diversity and social justice. Your realization of how other people experience the world and your campus will help you create a community were your residents can feel like they belong. As we learned during one of our exercises, sometimes we feel like we "do not belong here." Joy and I hope continue working to make your communities a place for everyone! Joy - You're the best partner ever and I couldn't imagine doing what we do with out you!

Elizabethtown College - Allison, Greg, Latrice and Chrissy - Thank you for such a warm welcome when I arrived - wow! I've always wanted to visit Etown and you made my time there very incredible! Allison - thank you for managing all the details so well and providing some valuable insight for our day. Greg - thank you for your adept assistance in getting everything set up. Latrice - Thank you as well with helping to set up and for keeping me company with such great conversation before the start of the program. Chrissy - what can I say? You really moved me with your introduction of me - I am forever grateful that Ship connected our paths and that I was able to spend those summers facilitating your diversity training and even after all that you still have nice words to say about me! I love the name tag idea and I hope you don't mind if I borrow it! To the Etown RAs - you all were a blast and so much fun! Dave - keep being you! Steve - you were right about Camille. Kristie, Kristi, Kari, Jackie, Billy, Jared (I'm glad you like the George Washington quote!), Steve and everyone else - your residents are fortunate to have you as their RAs. Never forget the impact you are having on their lives and how you can be powerful role models on your campus. I wish you all well and hope you have an incredible year!
